Exercising has many benefits. What you may not realize is that being in good shape is also crucial for your sexual health. Better muscle tone, detoxified lymphatic system, improved blood flow…it’s all a plus for both sexes: stronger erections for men, and greater arousal for women according to a University study from Texas.
According to Melanie Radzicki McManus is a freelance writer specializing in hiking, travel and fitness and has written for the CNN.com online edition, exercise definitely pays off in improving one’s sex life. She cites data collected from the National Institutes of Health which indicates that 43% of women and 31% of men suffer from some form of sexual dysfunction, with obesity and lack of exercise often being factors.
A study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine says:

In contrast, women who exercised up to 6 hours per week:

Dr. Karyn Eilber, a urologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and an expert in sexual wellness, told CNN: “It’s really a medical issue that we should be addressing as part of health and well-being. -being general about someone. But there’s still a stigma around the subject.”
The reason humans have sex is NOT just to procreate. Quality sexual activity has a major impact on your mental and emotional health, your quality of life, and the strength of your intimate relationships, the CNN report states. Hugs, holding hands, intimacy, kissing are all essential for multiple aspects of well-being, such as feeling understood, cared for and accepted.
Benefits that regular exercise gives us:
- Better blood circulation: When you exercise, the whole body gets a fresh blood supply, the cardiovascular system gets a jog. Strong and steady blood flow is the key to arousal. In men, it facilitates erections and in women, it contributes to vaginal lubrication and clitoral sensation.
- Increase in stamina: Regular stretches, lifts, twists, lunges, any exercise helps you build more endurance. Sexual activity is nothing less than exercise. The Mayo Clinic compares having sex to climbing two or three flights of stairs. And a study from the National Institutes of Health indicates that half an hour of sexual activity can burn 125 calories for men and almost 100 for women, which is equivalent to walking at a pace of 3 miles per hour.
- This accumulation and an aura of confidence: Both men and women feel more confident in their bodies and skills when exercise has helped them be more agile, relaxed and healthier. Both men and women prefer confident partners.
- Improves the sexual experience because stress is absent: Those who exercise feel much more relaxed. The endorphins that exercise release release all the stress. This is a big plus because otherwise being stressed, anxious or depressed can dampen your libido.
- Your health remains at 10: Whatever your goal behind exercise, it leaves you with better health and higher energy levels. Lifestyle diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes, which sometimes require drugs that inhibit arousal, are out of your way. Both of these medical conditions can also damage the tiny arteries in the penis, leading to erectile dysfunction.
